Miyagi rescued Jonny from Kreese then humiliated Kreese in front of his students by showing mercy. The sensei from the Cobra Kai dojo became nervous and ordered his students to attack Daniel’s leg and eliminate him from the tournament. They did just that incapacitating Daniel’s left leg. Miyagi knew nothing of tournament fighting but looked on from the sidelines as Daniel fought. Daniel showed his karate skill and began climbing through the ranks, winning. One evening, Miyagi was found drunk, dressed in his Class A military uniform and singing a song he’d heard as a child in the internment camps. Miyagi was remembering his wife and child. One fateful night, Miyagi rescued Daniel from a group of bullies. All these bullies were from the Cobra Kai dojo. So, Miyagi agreed to talk to the sensei about his student’s dishonorable actions. To his surprise the students had been doing exactly what their sensei, John Kreese, had instructed them to do. Miyagi asked for two months to train Daniel before the under-18 all-valley karate tournament. Miyagi kept to himself until he overheard the plight of a newcomer from Newark, New Jersey one Daniel LaRusso. Miyagi’s heart went out to the outcast bullied boy and he started helping where he could. Karate KidĪt some point Miyagi moved to California where he took the job of handyman living on the property at the South Seas apartments. Miyagi met his wife in Hawaii she worked as a cane cutter. Miyagi was a Sergeant fighting Germans at the time. Miyagi lost both his son and wife in 1944 due to complications during childbirth. No doctor came. Miyagi earned several wartime medals including a Medal of Honor for valor. Miyagi made a big speech in front of the whole village. He would break with tradition and marry Yukie anyway! Sato felt disgraced and challenged Miyagi to a fight to the death to save his honor. Miyagi never accepted the challenge, he instead left Okinawa forever. The only thing he took with him was a true bonsai tree worth thousands of dollars. He planted it on a cliff in Devil’s Cauldron, California. Miyagi grew up in Tomi village, Okinawa. His father, a fisherman by trade, taught him how to grow and trim bonsai tree. He also taught Miyagi the fighting art of karate. At a young age, Miyagi fell in love with a girl, Yukie, but her parents had arranged a marriage to someone else. Miyagi’s best friend, Sato, had also been taught karate by Miyagi’s father.
